Some have called this movie comical, shallow and poorly written, directed and acted. Do they actually assume it is a romantic thriller? Its correct subject is reality cinema. Independent films have fallen on monotonous times lately, having peaked at all the awards shows three years ago. That writer-director Matthew Parkhill has tweaked the genre while leading us in another direction entirely is so clever that Alfred Hitchcock himself might have cracked a smile.

Not that “Dot the i” pretends to match the master. But it does have the oblique concept of human nature and shadowy motive that he liked. This little-known movie would be too clever for its bear righteous were the script itself not so clever or so top-notch. It succeeds by alternating scenes of suspense and surprise that, in retrospect, get perfect sense. The artists who made this film about artists like themselves haven’t missed a trick. Critics who dismiss their accomplishment dismiss indie films, and we don’t want that, do we?

A jobless Brazilian actor (Gael Garcia Bernal, he of the killer smile in his first English-speaking role) and a quick-tempered flamenco dancer meet cute in London on the eve of her wedding to a rich Englishman. All three bring to this triangle doubts about their absorb securities and commitments. One thing is clear: all three rightly suspect the other two are concealing something. As the sage unfolds in several directions at once, we realize how devious the plotting has been and, in the final sequence, how slickly we’ve been conned. What a sweet surprise!

“Dot the I” is a bright and unpredictable film, which usually comes around at least once a year. The shroud of the film says “This Years Memento” and I’d say that’s a blooming statement although this movie isn’t quite as qualified as that movie. The thing I respected about this movie was that once your handed the first twist, you reflect you know what’s going on. Then they throw something else at you and you’ve got it figured out. But they have one last thing in store before it reaches its raze. The movie stars Gael Garcia Bernal as Kit, an enemployed actor who lives in France and meets Carmen (Natalia Verbeke) at her Bachelorette Party. Due to an French tradition, Carmen has to lift a man in the restaurant to kiss. Her last kiss as a free woman. Carmen picks Kit and shares a kiss that makes her rethink her marriage completely. Carmen’s fiancee Barnaby (James D’Arcy) is tremulous about what’s going on with his radiant fiancee, as Carmen (semi-reluctantly) starts an affair with Kit. The movie is really attractive to a point where you’re reluctant to fetch up. It’s in the vein of films like “Memento” or “Match Point” or “Mulholland Dr.” but it’s not quite as sunless or peevish as those movies; This is one of those intellectual films that teenagers will like and adults will luxuriate in. All the actors, especially the hot Verbeke, are ample and writer/director Matthew Parkhill shows an mountainous talent.

Great Value!

This is a hard product to review. I admire “The Munsters” and cannot say anything dreadful about the episodes. I have to give this 5-stars for the content: Everything that was on the previous releases – plus the fact that Universal FINALLY achieve all of this on single-sided discs. But, I have to occupy points off for Universal NOT fixing problems with the novel releases: The discs are exactly the same – menus, articulate, and “problems”!

The first season episodes should have been spread out more – disc 6 (originally disc 3B) only has four episodes – the others have six or seven. The colorized version of “Family Portrait” has been added to disc 2 (originally 1B) . Be warned! It is not perfect. I originally watched this episode on my TV in the living room and it was dreadful. It looked as if it was one of the first colorization tests. But I re-watched on my bedroom TV and it was a lot better. I guess it all depends on your TV’s settings. The Munsters and their house are actually done well and peruse as if filmed in color. The predicament is with the “human” characters. Their skin tones are off and it looks fakey. If only other studios could do the genuine and realistic job that Paramount did with the “Lucy Goes to Scotland” episode of “I Care For Lucy.” But it is a handsome helpful attempt at colorization. It was a treat to discover what it might have looked like if filmed in color, but I assume the view and feel of the B&W version.

The second season episodes level-headed have the crappy Universal logo and music before EVERY episode. And there is no method to skip it. I was praying that the studio would grasp this (also, it isn’t seen with the first season episodes) .

So, 5-stars for putting everything in one package, the episodes themselves, single-sided discs, and the bonus features (including the colorized episode) . But I descend the rating to 3-stars for not spreading out the first season episodes, the vulgar sound on a couple of first season episodes that should have been corrected, and the Universal logo w/music before every single second season episode with no design to bypass it. Universal made a noble attempt but fumbled by not making all the well-known corrections. But I am level-headed VERY satisfied to have one of my current shows on DVD.

Oh, the single box contains two digi-packs. The first one is Season One with six discs. The second one is Season Two with six discs (four are the episodes, one is the bonus biographies, one is the two movies) . Each has the disc breakdowns and the discs overlap – two per page.

Now you execute the decision on whether to steal this. If you already beget the Season Sets and don’t mind the 2-sided discs and have the separate two-movie disc, then I wouldn’t occupy this. There is nothing different except the colorized episode – which is now available separately. If you would acquire single-sided discs and want everything (which includes the two-movie disc) in one package, than this product is for you. I hope this helps you settle.

Based on a suitable legend that is so unbelievable and terrifying, “Donnie Brasco” is a wonderful film that hooks you from originate to effect. With stars like Al Pacino, Johnny Depp, Michael Madsen, and many more, this is a movie that should be seen by all.

FBI Joseph D. Pistone is an undercover agent who’s goal is to secure into the violent and unpredictable mob world. He goes the by name of Donnie Brasco. Soon he is discovered by Lefty Ruggiero, who sees potential in the kid, not aware of who Brasco really is. He brings him into the family and the world of the Mafia. It doesn’t engage long for Joseph to acquire so deep into the action that he starts to become one of them. This unforgettable portray shows us that sometimes you can become what you slump if you’re in too long, and that in order to pick up a monster you may become one yourself in the process.

I became addicted to this film in no time. It’s one of my favorites that I have seen over and over again, and it hasn’t gotten passe yet. The acting and directing is all fabulous. Al Pacino really shines, as always, and Johnny Depp gives an Academy Award performance as the FBI agent. He actually spent time with the true Joseph Pistone to fetch his character down, as he did when he was working on “Panic and Loathing in Las Vegas.” Michael Madsen is also terrific and can once again send chills down our spines impartial as he did in “Reservoir Dogs.”

This current special edition of the DVD is grand, Noteworthy better than the current. First off, the sound and relate quality has really improved. Especially the picture; it looks a lot better than the first version that came out. There are also a lot of extras, including features such as director’s commentary, and uncommon featurette, the modern featurette, deleted scenes, trailers, and more. The featurettes are very though-provoking and makes the DVD that mighty more special. A very high quality special edition, if you ask me.

All in all, “Donnie Brasco” is an outstanding recount on all fronts. Filled with drama and suspense, this is a film that will pick you deep into the world of the Mafia. The only query is how far would you go? And would you risk becoming one of them when it’s all said and done? Top-notch all the arrangement!

None of us knows what it’s really like to go undercover. We consider we do but we don’t. Clear, we’ve watched the movies, read the books and all but what it’s doing to your soul, your family life, everything, that it destroys all you have and feel, that is what this movie is about.

When Lefty (Al Pacino as a gross level mobster) takes in Donnie (Johnny Depp as an undercover FBI agent) he tells him “Wiseguys are always legal. Even when they’re imperfect they’re accurate,” he is detestable. Monotonous nasty. He fair doesn’t know it yet.

Lefty treats Donnie as a son and Donnie gets emotionally fervent. In his possess blueprint Lefty has a mammoth heart, his hopes and dreams. But the dirt gets in the diagram and they don’t materialize.

Bit by bit both Lefty’s and Donnie’s lives derail. Donnie starts losing his wife and kids and Lefty his obnoxious in the (crime) family.

Can they do anything to put what’s left? Do they want to and if so, what is more essential, life as it was, friendship or the risky future? Does risking everything account for the costs?

Based on a proper tale this valid film shows the dirt as it is. Forget about the romance of other mobster movies and enter loyalty and misery. Both Al Pacino and Johnny Depp give larger than life performances. The supporting cast is terrific as is the directing. The 70s style indoor lighting helps turn it into a timeless masterpiece.

The Blu-ray disc is arresting as can be. This one should be in your collection.

I saw this film at its premiere in Seattle (The Emerald City) in 1985. I had read the Oz books for years (including the then-elusive non-Baum books written after his death) and always loved the mix of concern, whismy, and enchantment in the books.

I grew up (like every other person in America) with memories of the 1939 musical–but even as a kid I hated the fact that the MGM musical messed so mighty with the unsafe and plain aspects of Oz, turning everything into a candy-coated Technicolor dream.

Thus, when I finally saw RETURN TO OZ (based on two books, OZMA of OZ and THE LAND of OZ), I realized that the filmmakers had actually sat down and read the books. Gone were the delighted go-lucky images of a very proper position (was Judy Garland’s Dorothy ever truly in effort?!? ) and in its site was a fairyland burly of shaded dreams, scary villains, and entirely current characters. And yet, most of America kept asking, “Where’s the Munchkins? “

Buy,Download, Or Stream Return to Oz! Click Here

In fact, the film critic for our local paper so trashed the film on its release that I (as a lowly high school sophomore) wrote him a detailed letter explaining what he had missed in the film by spending all his time comparing it to the MGM film. He (like most of America) missed some fantastic moments: Fairuza Balk’s film debut as a staunch, valorous, and sometimes haunted minute girl being called on to establish an entire country from extinction, the Oscar-nominated special effects that brought to life characters that had only existed on paper (like Tik-Tok, Jack Pumpkinhead, and the Nomes), and the sizable performances by British actors Nicol Williamson and Jean March as the villains.

Walter Murch and his team got everything honest with this one, even down to character design: ogle at how closely the Oz chracters (Tik-Tok, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodsman, etc.) match the diagram they looked in John R. Neil’s illustrations; listen to the astounding glean unruffled by David Shire, bulky of life, brilliance, and haunting motifs (the opening credit sequence alone gives chills) ; and the expend of Will Vinton’s Claymation (of California Raisins fame) to bring the rock-based Nomes to life.

Unfairly dumped by Disney in the ensuing years (to the point that this DVD version isn’t even released by them), the film is only now being rediscovered by people who savor grand fantasy, gargantuan filmmaking, and who truly admire to scrutinize OZ on veil.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Return to Oz! Click Here

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The big film editor walter Murch got the chance in the early Eighties to obtain a spectacular film compressing the first two sequels to THE Improbable WIZARD OF OZ, THE MAGICAL LAND OF OZ and OZMA OF OZ, as a tribute to the Baum books he loved. The film was a celebrated flop, given that almost everyone who took their children to it expected it to be a sequel to the noted M-G-M film version of 1939. (In Murch’s version, there are no songs and the carryover characters from the first film–Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Lion—look like the unusual illustrations of them by John Neill and W. W. Denslow rather than the draw they were portrayed in the 1939 film.) But the film has endured as a cult classic, a master of the film art’s tribute to the books and illustrations he loved from his youth.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Return to Oz! Click Here

It’s an amazingly attractive film, but it would be insanity to indicate it to little children. It starts out with Uncle Henry and Aunt Em, rebuilding their house and farm from the cyclone, hold Dorothy, who has been speaking of wild stories of cities made of emeralds and scarecrows who talk, to Topeka for electroshock therapy. The asylum they bring her to is a hideous chamber of horrors, and when she escapes it for Oz she is confronted with fantastic other visual terrors, such as the lunatic Wheelers and the Princess Mombi (a variant of both the traditional witch Mombi and the Princess Langwidere from the Oz books), who exchanges fair heads for her body the plot other women change dresses. The scene where Mombi’s headless body chases Dorothy through her chamber of heads (as the other disembodied heads roar in terror) is one of the scariest things I can imagine a child ever viewing.

But this is really a film for adults, and the creepiness of its details add to the archaic viewers’ pleasure. The sets and costumes are spectacular, the cast includes such accomplished actors as Piper Laurie (as Aunt Em), Jean Marsh (Mombi) and Nicol Williamson (the Nome King), and the David Shire rep is one of the most aesthetic film scores ever written–period. As for Dorothy herself, the producers chose such a unusually haunting Dorothy (with helpful multicolored eyes and a sharp plaintive quality to her declare) that the actress, Fairuza Balk, has spun a strong acting career from her early cult fame in this share.

If you like the Pink Panther cartoons, then you will like this one! The Pink Panther is chilly and hungry on Christmas. He’ll try anything to obtain a hot meal, but nothing seems to work out for him (as usual) . There is no dialog, but I reflect this fair enhances the special. I also really cherish the songs! Its fair comical and appetizing. One drawback is the animation is alot like the other pink panther cartoons (which are fairly veteran) (Think: “Yes Virgina, there is a Santa Claus”) So its a bit grievous and only a few colours are stale (alot of the stuff seems overly pinky/orange) . But its calm stout to behold and I like it! And the ending is cute too! Grand for kids or any nostalgic adults.

It was surprisingly thoughtful of MGM to release the other two Pink Panther TV Specials here on this DVD along with “A Pink Christmas”! It’s not distinct from the cloak or the DVD info listed that all three Pink Panther TV Specials are on this disc, but they indeed are. “A Pink Christmas” which aired on ABC Dec 7, 1978; “Olym-Pinks” which aired on ABC Feb 22, 1980; and “Pink At First Leer” which aired on ABC May 10, 1981 were all approximately 25 minutes in length. “A Pink Christmas” was adapted from a 1906 O. Henry short record called ‘The Cop and the Anthem’ (credited in the cartoon) and is a unbelievable ‘haves and have-nots’ type anecdote that makes a perfect adaptation to the world of the Pink Panther – it’s not an precise re-telling, the character in the short myth is trying to rep into jail so he can be warm and have food, while the Panther is on a quest for food, but he does try at one point to glean into a jail. “Olym-Pinks” capitalized on the 1980 Winter Olympics that were held in Lake Placid, Fresh York that year, and is a series of very competitive olympic games played between Panther and the ‘little man’ (as the animators referred to him) . And “Pink At First Peer”, although aired in May of ‘81, is essentially a Valentine’s Day yarn. The studio could easily have only released the Christmas special and charged the same amount, but they extinct some foresight and gave we ‘completists’ a bonus with the other two TV Specials. While not having the ‘classic-ness’ (for lack of a better word) of the 1960s Panther cartoons, the specials are fun, and clearly the Christmas special is the highlight of the DVD and easily worth the notice in and of itself. I remember when it first aired (I was 9) and it didn’t really reveal all that often over the years. And as a fan of animation, it’s wintry to actually have it on DVD after nearly 30 years.

It is all about music on one hand and the emergence of the Blacks through music in the US on the other hand. As for music, it clearly shows how hip hop or rap are not a musical genres that approach from nowhere but that they were prepared by and they inherit a lot from the blues, even maybe gospels, and I would even say jazz. The main understanding developed by the film is that any musical manufacture sums up older forms and trespasses their limits. It is right of Sad music as well as any other make of art anywhere in the world. Dismal music is as so noit different at all from Mozart, Purcell or Verdi. Even the most revolutionary compose is nothing but the descendent of previous forms. On the other hand, and this is primary, the emergence of the Blues in Chicago was due to the confluence of the same ambition, to emerge from poverty and segregation, among Blacks and Jews, in this case a distinct Muddy Waters and a Polish Jewish immigrant (and his family) after WW2, the latter creating the first report note, Chess, that launched the Blues in the world, on radios, on recount players, on TV later, and of course in various bars and clubs. It also shows how the Blues was sunless in its majority but not only and that some Whites took portion from the very originate, meaning that the Bluies was a music coming from the Blacks, but not only, carried by the Blacks, but not only, and directed at the Blacks, but not only and by far. And it finally shows how the Blues of these obsolete bluesmen can be easily merged with rap or hip hop. The general opinion then is that music is a method for down-trodden people to recapture their pride and to conquer a state in the culture of the oppressive society they live in and eventually a dwelling in this society. Culture is a plan to liberate energies in people and to liberate people from their humiliation. Culture is also and necessarily a blend of various elements that approach from different experiences and people, different historical and geographical backgrounds. Merging is a large movement that brings together the past and the exhibit to originate the future. There is no future for any cultural build if it does not have roots. It is from the roots that the fruits near.

Anyone who has bought the previous sets know what to inquire and for anyone who hasn’t all the boxes are always well done with the discs holding the episodes but not noteworthy more than that. The recount and sound is gigantic and it comes with a booklet with brief info on character’s (heroes and villains) and summaries of all the episodes. I also want to say that I like that funimationn has made all the sets the same layout so they lineup well on a shelf.

I Hope they release the ninth season earlier than May but who knows, whenever they do we’ll net to scrutinize the Fusion and Kid Buu sagas finishing up this series on DVD.

I’ve enjoyed rewatching these episodes that I remember so well despite not having seen them since they originally aired device succor at the turn of the millenium. I acquire myself watching familiar moments and enjoying them in completely original and different ways than I did as a youth. I’m clear many relish this season since it’s getting us into the final saga’s and battles of DragonBall Z but I always found these sagas different for a reason that I’m fair now belief. Other than the thirteen originals that broadcast in the mid-nineties, that I actually remember watching, Dragon Ball hadn’t aired in North America so most of us were introduced to DBZ first. I got weak to the prove being very science fiction oriented with the first few seasons of alien threats, position recede, killer androids and time depart and then came this final speed of Majin Buu, which was more about magic and crazy fighting techniques. After having seen the Dragon Ball series in it’s entirety now and looking at these episodes I savor them more because I understand that Akira Toriyama had simply taken the series relieve to it’s roots for the final sagas. The current Dragon Ball was all about crazy fighting styles and ridiculous moves and it had many elements of magic, for DBZ he had been influenced more by Sci-Fi in an attempt to change up the record but here radiant he was bringing it to an extinguish he must have decided to select it relieve to the earliest days.

Any fan of DBZ will secure these appetizing, the final face off between Goku and Vegeta, Goten and Trunks learning Fusion, Goku transforming to SS3. I even accept Goten and Trunks trying to fight in disguise as an adult and Eighteen fighting Hercule in a melee tournament silly B stories. I’m happy this will be out in February and can’t wait to effect this series with the final two sagas and the ninth boxed region. Thanks.

From 1997 to 2003, Joss Whedon gave his audience some of the best episodes aired on television. BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER showcased an empowered young girl saddled with the unintimidating name of Buffy Summers, who, with the back of her high school friends and her stuffy mentor Giles, faced sundry monsters and saved the world – a lot. Along the draw, she managed to leave an indelible impact on our pop cultural consciousness.

Before its series debut, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, based on its promotional push on TV, seemed slated to be a straight-out terror series starring an erstwhile typical high schooler who battles vampires and demons. But, fairly quick on, this unassuming itsy-bitsy exhibit, thanks to Whedon’s intense and witty, pop-culture savvy yet very literate writing, met and surpassed the viewer’s expectations. Whedon created compelling stories and characters who grew on the viewers; for seven years, we watched them strive to acquire a normal life as they navigated thru high school, college life, and then to adulthood, all the while frequently facing down supernatural threats. Which brings us to Season 7.

Possible SPOILERS follow: Here in the bittersweet and dismal finale season, Joss Whedon attempts to provide closure to the point to and also to bring it elephantine circle to its origins. The opening episode “Lessons” has Buffy escorting Dawn, for her inaugural school day, help to splendid, ol’ Sunnydale High, which has fair been rebuilt on top of the primitive one. This, by the diagram, means that the Hellmouth is very remarkable alive and again active. Somehow, Buffy is offered a job as a school counselor at Sunnydale High by the enigmatic distinguished, Robin Wood (24’s D.B. Woodside) . Relieve in England, Willow, under the tutelage of Giles and a benevolent coven of witches, has been recovering from her turn to the shadowy side (Season Six) and receives a horrifying stare of the future for Sunnydale. Meanwhile, Spike is found set in the Sunnydale High School basement in a bonkers status of mind, influenced by his unique soul and possibly also by…something else. Lessee, who’s left? Anya is again a Vengeance Demon, though her heart isn’t really in it. And Xander is calm fixing windows…

The season’s major record arc involves the return of the First Improper, the current and the source of all sinful. The First’s return is made possible by the instability caused by Buffy’s having died and consequently being resurrected (again, Season 6) . Very early on, we obtain a hint of the season’s Colossal Terrible as various Sunnydale denizens spout the ominous warning: “From beneath you, it devours.” This season also increases the scope of Buffy’s world even more as most of the Watcher Council are annihilated and Giles is forced to survey out Potential Slayers (who are also being killed off one by one by Bringers, no-eyed, murdering servants of Caleb and the First) and bring them to Sunnydale for protection. Now, more than ever, Buffy’s leadership skills and methods are tested and even questioned as several of the Potentials present to be uncowed and contentious free thinkers. Buffy has never been forced to teach as many bracing, rallying speeches as she has been this season, which attests to her foe’s overwhelming level of menace.

Because the First cannot enter our world in a corporeal acquire and can only capture the identities of expressionless people, this is an opportunity for a callback of Buffy’s past uber-foes. For one last time, we derive to like cameos of the Master, Drusilla, the Mayor, Adam, Glory, and two of the Nerd Trio. Exquisite elegant. Besides the First, Buffy faces two unfavorable and truly hard-to-kill villains, who are themselves minions of the First: the Turok-Han, an early caveman type of vampire (thus, even more sturdy than contemporary vampires) and Caleb, the terrifying, mysoginistic preacher who convincingly beats Buffy senseless in several encounters.

As ever, the writers do an extraordinary job. The episodes are obviously action-packed. But, underneath the surface, the expose is laden with metaphors and symbolisms. Themes of isolation, the isolation of a leader, female empowerment, sacrifice, friendship, and humanity are touched on in astronomical depth. This season is also about the quest for redemption. Most of the members of Buffy’s Scooby gang, ironically, at one point or another, were bad or have turned execrable in the past: Willow, Spike, Anya, Faith, Andrew…All these characters are trying to gain their method aid to atonement; it won’t be easy.

This season has to be the one with the most recurring characters in it. Vital Wood and the Potentials are introduced. Season 7 also marks the return of Andrew, Faith, and, in one episode, Angel. With the glut of additional characters, the core Scoobies are given short thrift here, although Dawn does shine in “Potential” and Xander proves his worth in “Potential” and “Dirty Girls.” One episode, “Selfless,” really focuses on Anya and paves the device for her eventual return to the fold. Only Spike seems to absorb copious mask time throughout the series. The camera, of course, is ever on Buffy Summers.

The arrival of the Potentials does usher in a freshness to the series as it simultaneously takes the spotlight away from the Scoobies. The take-charge Kennedy (Iyari Limon), the feisty Rona (Indigo), and Amanda (Sarah Hagan) demonstrate to be welcome additions to the cast, while the non-English speaking Asian Potential drops some instant funnies. “Conversations with Dumb People” reintroduces Andrew (the very helpful, very comic Tom Lenk) as a possible superb guy, while “Dirty Girls” marks the welcome return of sexy Faith (Eliza Dushku) as her encounters with Spike provide some of the high points of the season. The awesome Nathan Fillion, by the contrivance, is scary kindly as Caleb.

The Special Features provide episode commentaries by various cast and crew members on “Lessons,” “Selfless,” “Conversations with Dumb People,” “The Killer In Me,” “Lies My Parents Told Me,” “Dirty Girls,” and “Chosen.” Disc 3 has the featurette “It’s Always Been About the Fans.” Disc 6 offers up four more featurettes (the 36-minute long “Season 7 Overview – Buffy: Fleshy Circle”; “Buffy 101- Studying the Slayer” – various television critics talk about the show’s influence; “Generation S” – interviews with the Potentials actresses; “The Last Sundown” – a recognize at Joss Whedon’s top 10 popular Buffy episodes and some of his thoughts about the series) ; an outtakes reel (not that comic) ; “Buffy Wraps” (the wrap party with cast and crew, but where was Sarah Michelle Gellar? ) ; and for those who care, a DVD-ROM Willow Demon Guide.

Years ago, Joss Whedon wanted to shake things up by turning topsy-turvy the cliche of the hapless, miniature blonde damsel needing a hero to near to her rescue. Seven years of quality television has proven that audiences will gather a exiguous girl being estimable of slaying monsters while remaining quintessentially feminine. So, above all else, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER is meant to be a feminist allegory. But, for those who aren’t into that, there’s calm so worthy that this season has to offer: an us against the world mentality, superlative action sequences, shivery horror/fantasy elements, witty repartees, heartfelt dialogue, entertaining, dramatic stories, and gargantuan acting. And, of course, tall, iconic heroes in Buffy Summers, Spike, Faith, and crew. Five stars for one of my all-time accepted shows EVER.

Oh, yeah, and I like the slim residence collection.

As a immense “Buffy” fan, I was both nervous and exasperated when I received the Seventh Season DVDs in the mail: nervous, because it was the final season – what if it wasn’t suitable? And wrathful, because it WAS the final season, and traditionally, grand happens during the final year of a TV point to. I’d read reviews claiming that the season was poor, so I began the season expecting to be a tiny disappointed.

But I wasn’t. The first five episodes were terrific. They made me feel like I was relieve in the honorable ol’ days of “Buffy”, in the early seasons. “Lessons”, the season opener, was broad and filled with Joss Whedon’s trademark wit (although he wrote the episode, he didn’t order it) . “Him”, while not the most intelligent episode, was very exquisite (particularly a sequence towards the raze of the episode, with some terrific music and editing) . “Conversations with Humdrum People” was a broad episode, thanks to numerous engaging storylines and a glowing script (not to mention a stout performance by Jonathan Woodward as a talkative undead college student) .

From there, it all went downhill.

Out of nowhere, the show’s footing disappeared. The “Potential Slayers” were introduced, a group of whiney girls whom do nearly nothing for the storyline. For something like seven or eight episodes, we’re forced to endure the training of the Potentials. Those eight or so episodes are some of the worst – and by far the hokiest – that the demonstrate has produced. The show’s major comeback was the seventeenth episode, “Lies My Parents Told Me”. It was a very entertaining, icy, well-written episode, in which Important Wood attempts to abolish Spike for a crime he committed long ago. From there on, the point to improved, but it detached wasn’t like it archaic to be.

The finale – “Chosen” – was one of the greatest episodes of the explain. Written and directed by Joss Whedon, it’s filled with astronomical Whedon dialog, humor, and action. Whedon gives the present the dramatic, explosive, and very fitting ending the explain so rightly deserved.

The two finer characters introduced in the season – Considerable Robin Wood, and Caleb, the Disagreeable Preacher – really improved the episodes (although Wood seemed to depart in some of the later episodes) . As I care for Joss Whedon’s sci-fi/western expose “Firefly”, I concept it was astounding to peer Nathan Fillion (the star of that display) appear on “Buffy” as Caleb.

Willow never really shines in this season until the final episode (you can thunder Whedon loves her) . Sarah Michelle Gellar does her best to work with the customary material she’s given, as do the rest of the cast members.

The really disagreeable thing about this season is that there’s a point where you unprejudiced conclude caring. You eye the episodes because you have to to complete the series. But the season is worth purchasing, if only for the first seven episodes and the last five episodes.

TOP 5 OF THE SEASON

1. “Chosen”

2. “Lies My Parents Told Me”

3. “Conversations with Expressionless People”

4. “Lessons”

5. “Him”

Here’s a movie for dog lovers, the elderly, children of divorce, FOBs (Friends of Birds), frail Boy Scouts, people yearning for adventure, and anyone who has ever loved… and lost. Up is for everyone. It made me laugh out loud, and it made me scream.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Up! Click Here

I plan it would be tough for Up to match the emotional power of Wall-E. The two Pixar films are similar in their lack of dialogue in the first act, which helps deepen the emotional impact. Up begins with Carl, a frightened young boy star-struck by a eminent explorer; and kookie Ellie, who has a similar obsession. The two kids become rapid friends, and shriek to one day fade to Venezuela’s Paradise Falls. After getting married, they recall their dream home and fix it up, hoping to gain it with children. Carl and Ellie’s life together from childhood through musty age is depicted, silently, with delicacy and subtlety. The first 15 minutes is like a celebration of a satisfied marriage, and you truly feel Carl’s injure when he is left alone. He sits slumped in his chair, talking to the house as if it is the missing Ellie.

When developers stop in on Carl’s beloved home, he decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie and depart to Paradise Falls. A archaic balloon vendor, Carl lifts his home with hundreds of shiny balloons. Stowing away on the porch is Russell, a chunky, fearless kid trying to come by a scouting badge.

After landing in Paradise Falls, the outmoded man and the slight boy are joined by a golden retriever named Dug who can talk with his collar, and a colossal rare bird that bonds with Russell (he names her “Kevin”) . Dug is priceless: spot-on for every dog that ever lived, including an obsession with squirrels. Through a series of halt calls and adventures, the quartet vanquishes a villain, saving the day. And Russell earns his scouting badge.

In the process, Carl learns to let go of his shadowy mourning for Ellie, and live life again. When this happens, a truly magical thing happens. Before, Carl’s craggy face is gray and monochromatic. At the moment of his transformation, Carl’s face is awash in color, and he is surrounded by gorgeous hues. It reminded me of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy steps out of her gray world and into a candy-colored Munchkinland. Carl, too, enters a whole unusual world.

Up is a deeply emotional film, stout of truth. It’s the year’s best film. Salvage another triumph for Pixar.

Someday, Pixar is going to do it — they’re going to develop an emotionally uninspiring, lackluster though-provoking movie. But in the meantime, they’re mild putting out scrumptious intelligent movies like “Up,” which defies the usual kid-movie conventions by starring a crotchety veteran man. It’s a charming, fun exiguous adventure fable with flying dogs and balloon-powered houses, but underlying it is a bittersweet diminutive fable about loss and savor.

As a child, the horrified Carl Fredricksen bonded with the oddball Ellie over their shared adore of adventure, the explorer Charles Muntz, and Paradise Falls. They later married, travel into their “clubhouse” together, and lived a long, sadly childless life together. When Ellie died, she had never fulfilled her dream of going to Paradise Falls.

Now crotchety, alone and harassed by a steady estate developer, Carl (Ed Asner) is finally ordered to a retirement home. But he isn’t going quietly — instead he attaches thousands of balloons to his house and floats it away toward South America. But he accidentally takes an eager, naive Wilderness Explorer (a thinly-veiled Boy Scout) named Russell (Jordan Nagai) along for the scuttle. Bad kid was unprejudiced trying to obtain an “assisting the elderly” badge.

And the jungle sprint to Paradise Falls turns out to have some surprising obstacles: a huge emulike bird that Russell names Kevin, a talking dog named Dug (”I am jumping on you, bird!”), and a mysterious venerable man who lives deep in the heart of the jungle. Turns out the veteran guy is very familiar to Carl — and to assume Kevin, he’s willing to sacrifice Carl and Russell.

Industry experts were babbling about how “Up” wouldn’t be as celebrated as the previous Pixar movies, because the protagonist is basically a crusty extinct coot. Well, shows what they know. It ended up becoming one of those classic movies that somehow appeals to all ages — while the humor and action appeal to children, adults can delight in Carl’s appreciate for his lost wife, and his insensible realization that he’s clinging to the past.

In fact, the first ten minutes are some of the most heart-tugging, quietly bittersweet scenes I’ve seen in a long time. Without a word, they present all the ups and downs of a realistic marriage — joys, sorrows (Ellie’s inability to have children), growing used together, and finally loss.

But it’s not a depressing movie by any stretch — in fact, it’s like a childhood fantasy advance to life, complete with a floating house suspended on hundreds of balloons, and biplanes piloted by a talking dog army.. Plenty of enormous dialogue (”Do you want to play a game? It’s called Discover Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.” “Wintry! My mom loves that game!”) and an action-packed climax in an musty airship.

Ed Asner is absolutely perfect as ubergrouch Carl — crotchety, grumpy, and obvious to fulfill his wife’s lifelong dream, but gradually realizing he’s clinging to the past. Nagai is equally perfect as Carl’s polar opposite: a naive, chattery Scout who is certain to reunite Kevin with her baby chicks. And the utterly adorable Dug and the other dogs deserve special observe. These creatures are utterly hilarious — they talk (”I hid under your porch because I fancy you”) and act the contrivance dogs would if they talked. Three words: cone of shame.

The two-disc edition is going to have some very nice extras, but once again people with regular-def DVDs are going to pick up shafted because the Blu-ray edition will have a bunch of unfamiliar stuff. Grr. As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.

There are also a pair of adorable sharp shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to insist potentially wrong baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. And “Dug’s Special Mission” is a sort of backstory for the adorable Dug, explaining what the heck he was doing before he met up with Carl and Russell.

“Up” continues Pixar’s running tally of gloriously piquant, emotionally layered movies that the entire family can luxuriate in. With that, I have only one more thing to say… SQUIRREL!
